The suns that close out each of our stories mostly come from our loyal viewers, who share their luminous creativity with us.

It’s a tradition that started decades ago, when the first unsolicited suns showed up in the “Sunday Morning” mailbox.

Jessica Frank uses some suns as soon as she gets them; others she saves for a rainy day.
“I’ll have a sun for four years or five years and I don’t have a place for it,” said Frank. “And then I’ll watch the piece and say, ‘Oh, thank goodness, I finally can use the whatever sun,’ and I get so excited.”

Jessica Frank has gotten suns made from every material under the sun – painted, sculpted or fabricated. She’s gotten suns that were hubcaps, or crafted from every material under the sun: Figs, vegetables, pieces of broken glass, seashells, chili peppers, duct tape, Lego bricks, even scrunched-up Post-it notes.
